Yes we love DDLJ and we all love Raj, you wanna know why ?

srk5

While I am a hopeless Shahrukh Khan and DDLJ fan I know a lot of people who share just the opposite feelings. They feel there is nothing great about this epic love story and it has gained accolades way more than it deserved. I don’t really believe in fighting with every single person with such a mindset but yes I firmly believe that there is something magical about this love story and I would give the whole credit to the charismatic Shahrukh Khan.

Lessons to learn from Tanu weds Manu Return

I recently watched Tanu Weds Manu Returns and I was awestruck by the performance of all the actors and the gripping story line. The movie is a sequel of Tanu Weds Manu, which was also a successful movie. But this has clearly crossed all the box office numbers. While watching this flick I could relate to a lot of things and apparently I have had many realizations too. Then I thought what is better than to pen it down and share it with all my friends. So the list goes like this:

  • If a girl drinks and goes on bike rides with a guy it is not necessary that she is in love with him. There are very high possibilities that they are just good friends. Apparently the world now needs to accept the fact that a girl and a boy can be good friends too. Remember the scene where Tanu (Kangna) refers to her friend as her soul mate. We have to accept that such a world exist where your friends can be your soul mate, the position is not always reserved for your spouse.

Things you hear when you tell someone you are from Lucknow.

I belong to Lucknow. Thats where I have spent most of my childhood. I did my school and college from Lucknow. I stepped out of Lucknow to persue my career in technology. When I joined work there were people from all over India. After a badinage you often end up asking the other person “Where are you from ?” I have faced this question too and I have had a variety of responses to my answer which is “Lucknow”.

Things you hear when you tell someone you are from Lucknow:

  • Lucknow mein “MAIN” nahi “HUM” kehte hai, hai na ? : This is most common thing that you would hear the moment you tell that you are from Lucknow. Till the time I was in Lucknow I never realised this but this is true, we do say “HUM”instead of “MAIN”. Coming from the city of tameez and tehzeeb it came from within we never really worked towards speaking “HUM” in place of “MAIN”.

  • Lucknow ka chicken toh bahut famous hai : After empahasizing on your choice of words they would straight jump to the craftsmanship of Lucknow. When I say chicken I meant Lucknow’s famous embriodery not the edible chicken. Initiallly I used to think what is this fuzz all about. I have grown up seeing chicken all aruond me so it wasn’t a big deal for me but now I realise the beauty of it. If you are from Lucknow you must have definitely bought chicken clothings for your friends atleast once in your lifetime. If you haven’t yet, you will soon.

  • Tum toh Tunde mein roz khati hogi: Lucknow is the undisputed king of kebabs and Tunde has a reputation worth bragging. Being a vegetrian I have never had a kabab from Tunde. Yes go ahead Judge me. But I still know it must be sumptuous and mouthwatering courtsey all my non vegetarian friends and their love for Tunde. It has happened time and again that I have been asked to get Kebabas from Tunde but so far nobody has been that privileged.

  • Mayawati has made a Marine Drive in Lucknow, is it true ?: There is huge transformation done by Mayawati near the Gomti Nagar area. It has been very artistically desgined and it’s beauty is worth watching for hours. You would happily visit this place almost everyday. Nowadays it has become a popular destination for photography. So the answer is “Yes” we do have a Marine Drive in Lucknow.

Russell Peters vs AIB

final

The topic must have given you a little bit of an idea about what beans am I going to spill today. Last Saturday, 14th of February I went to see Russell Peters live in concert. I am huge fan of Russell Peters and couldn’t hold my horses when I got to know he was coming to the city. The tickets were booked then and there. I had never seen him live this was the first time I was going to see him live in action, though I have seen all the videos of his performance available om YouTube.

I love his acts and comic timing. He is creative. He is spontaneous. He has this prodigy of taking out humor from everything. I absolutely adore him. If you haven’t seen any of his performances yet it is high time you hit YouTube.

We arrived at the venue Expocentre Noida well in time because I didn’t want to miss even a bit of the show. There was a lot of rush, people were pouring out from every possible directions. I didn’t expect this much of crowd but it was well in proportion with his popularity. There was an opening act of 30 minutes performed by some upcoming comedian which was funny but I was there for Russell Peters so I wanted it to end it real soon so that the real deal can start.

It was time and Russell Peters arrived on the stage. Right from that moment there wasn’t a single word from his mouth which didn’t leave people laughing their asses off. He made fun of absolutely everything that you can think of, starting with the location of the event he sprawled over every aspect of India and trust me it was downright hilarious. There were jokes cracked on the profession, color, races, relationships and everything that crosses your head. He has this unique ability to make you laugh with his witty statements and actions on stage. He would even do funny moves to support his incidents and that is the moment when you wish you hadn’t had a stomach because it would ache so much out of laughter.

After a great show we were heading back home and on the way back we discussed many of his punches and laughed again. Another thought that crossed my mind was how was this show any different than the AIB Roast which happened recently. If you compare, both the shows were based on the same concept. Make fun of people and make them laugh. If I now see I would say AIB Roast had still some level of sophistication whereas Russell Peters was just the same without any filters. There wasn’t a single line which didn’t involve abuses, just that it was all in English not in our mother tongue. It was organized in an open area just like AIB was, AIB was still decent enough to call up a panel and make fun of those selected people only however Russell Peters was brutal enough to pick random people from the crowd and shred them like never before.

It has been 5 days since the show, I don’t hear any controversy for the Russell Peters show. Such a level of hypocrisy makes me laugh and sad at the same time. Laugh because we embrace the west in every context but just cannot keep up with the fact that we can be equally good, sad because there are way more people to discourage you, slander you than to appreciate your efforts.

I am huge fan of Russell Peters as well as AIB. Being an Indian I would like to see AIB reaching the heights and popularity just like Russell. Promoting the same thing if it comes from the west and derogating it if it comes from us is not fair. Just because AIB involved some celebrities, the roast was blown out of propotion and made a huge hullaballo about it. I have written on this issue previously as well you can read my views here. I hope I have strengthen my point with this comparision. What do you think about the AIB controversy, was it really worth or just a publicity stunt ?

A toast to the new sense of humor – My take on AIB Roast

Yes Delhi is drenched in the election fever but it is okay to talk about other things as well. So this is my long awaited post about the AIB (All India Bakchod) controversy. So AIB is basically an acronym for All India Backchod, which is a group of four people Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya and Rohan Joshi. All four of them are blessed with gift of gab and are very famous for their comic timings and sense of humor. They are very popular for their videos on Youtube and they enjoy the hits in millions and billions.

AIB members

Recently this group organized an event called AIB roast of famous Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Actor Director Karan Johar was also invited to the event. Needless to say the tickets were sold in no time instead of being overpriced. The clear reason was the popularity and craze of AIB among the audience. The roast panel also included former “MTV Roadies” head Raghu Ram, stand-up comics Aditi Mittal, Abish Mathew and film critic Rajeev Masand.

roast roast2

The concept of this roast event was that each and every member will come on the podium and will make fun of the rest of the members in every possible way. The main targets however were the star guests Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. Karan Johar acted as a host and kick started the show with his roasting of everyone else. So if I have to explain this to a layman it would be like a group gathered to make fun of each other and a bigger group paid to watch that event. So if on earth anyone should have a problem with this, that person should belong to either of the groups. But apparently nothing like that happened the roast panel enjoyed the session and the audience too had a gala time. Later the whole show was uploaded on YouTube in a series of three part. Like a true AIB fan I did watch all three videos and trust me they were hilarious. There were punches which literally got me on the floor. Yes it involved few abuses and slander but the intention was made clear at the outset in their disclaimer.

After a few days I heard that there was an FIR filed against all the actors present in the roast for promoting obscene content publicly. They were charged with a lot of good sections and I wondered why do they forget all these sections when it comes to other important social issues.

police

I felt sad as to what has gone wrong with the humor sense of everyone. There are way more important issues out there which aren’t addressed yet and which are important for everyone. Such events happen everyday some place or the other, just because it involved few eminent personalities you would start with your moral policing. It is so amusing that the law and order is also highlighted as per the convenience. There are many cases of rapes, domestic violence, eve teasing which goes unrecorded and it would be great if you take your eyes off few people who are making fun of each other and start focusing on the real issues of the society.

The AIB group responded to this hullabaloo by saying “Nobody forced you to watch it”. And I thought it was more than enough of an answer to the nuisance created. Yes exactly nobody forced you to watch it. You watch it because you like AIB and you knew it would make you laugh your ass off. You had all the fun and now you are trying to capitalize on the content. It was a friendly banter, nothing less and nothing more. It wasn’t meant to hurt any religion or any personnel.

Unfortunately after all this controversy AIB took down the video and it is no longer available on YouTube. It makes me morose. In our hectic lives we seldom get a chance to laugh our lungs out and trust me it was one of the few chances. Have you seen the AIB roast videos ? If yes do share your opinion on this controversy.

When I saw two liquid states competing with each other.

A few days back I witness two things which made me laugh and smile. I instantaneously clicked pictures of both of them so that I can share it with you all.

I along with my colleagues had gone out for lunch to celebrate the first Monday of the year. Weird ha, who celebrate Mondays but we did cut some slack that day. Say thanks to the new year.

We entered the restaurant and after few minutes the menu card was on the table. I got the drinks menu, still don’t know why. The moment I opened the card I couldn’t help but smile. You want to know why see the picture below.

I have never heard or read such a lame explanation to promote the sale of liquor.

Okay if this wasn’t enough the same evening when we went out for tea I had another splendid visual treat. We went to “Chai Thela” for tea and the moment we got out tea I noticed the slogan written over the cup. It was indeed funny and very creative. Have a look at the below pic

Isn’t tea the best thing that happens to you everyday. It helps me so much to get through everything and I agree to bits to every word written on the cup.

Have you ever seen anything so funny and creative that you could dedicate a post over it? Let me know.
