“Humne apni beti ko bete jaisa pala hai” : Why on earth would you do that ?

“Humne kabhi apni beti ko bete se kam nahi samjha”

“Humne apni beti ko bête jaisa pala hai”

“Humari beti kisi bête se kam nahi”

I am not sure should I be happy with these statements or should I go into deep thoughts gloomily. These statements basically describe the whole problem with the gender inequality. Why would you raise your Daughter like a Son? Why would you ever compare your daughter with your son or with anyone’s sons. Are sons some benchmark that one has to achieve. Are they the epitome of righteousness that one has to follow their footsteps or do you do something extra in your son’s upbringing that you have now incorporated for your daughter as well. Have you ever heard “Humne apne bête ko beti jaisa pala hai” , “Humara beta kisi beti se kam nahi” ? I bet you haven’t.

There can be a lot of logical and illogical responses to my afore question. Few that I have heard are it is a colloquial way of saying, it has been said like this ever since. A lot of things have been done in some or the other ways ever since but it has now either changed or evolved. Why are we still stuck to the old and conventional thoughts when it comes to daughter and sons. I am not asking for a revenge here by demanding counter phrases for guys, all I want to say it there is no need to do the comparison at all.

Why a Merlion is called a Merlion ?

The iconic Merlion statue is located at the Merlion Park and it is one of the major tourist attractions in Singapore. If you ever Google “list of tourist attractions in Singapore” then Merlion would definitely boats its position in the top three spots.

s1
Only if I was a little more of a photographer I would have captured the whole of the Marina Bay Sands hotel in the picture. Nevertheless not a bad click for an amateur.

Merlion Park is a great spot to click postcard photos during your Singapore visit. The place is always very crowded and you would definitely spot some top notch cameras with giant lenses.

While doing my research on various tourist attractions in Singapore, the name Merlion was stuck in my head. I wondered why is was called a Merlion and not something else. I am sure the thought must have crossed your head too. I will unveil the trivia behind it.

Did you know that there is a Visa Temple in Hyderabad?

My love for Hyderabad is not hidden from anyone, for those who don’ know what I am talking about can refer here.

To bewilder you all a little more let me introduce this amazing temple in Hyderabad, yes you heard it right there is a Visa Temple in Hyderabad. The proper name being Chilkur Balaji Temple but colloquially it is know as Visa Balaji Temple or Visa God. I was new in Hyderabad when I first heard about this temple, and yes I would accept I giggled knowing the existence of such a temple. As time passed I heard more and more people mentioning about it. I too inquired few people about this temple and they all spoke very highly of it.

Why is it called a Visa Balaji Temple?

After hearing so much about it I couldn’t stop myself from doing some research on it. I then found the reason behind the much celebrated Visa Power that this temple boasts. It is believed that during 1980’s a group of students whose visa got rejected by the Chennai US visa consulate visited here and they prayed and sought Lord Balaji’s blessings. After this visit their wishes were fulfilled and they all got their visa. It happened with a lot of other people too and with the undisputed mighty power of word of mouth in no time this temple bagged the title of the first ever Visa Temple in India.

We haggle, that is in our blood. Proud Indians.

Paisa Vasool or making the best out of a given amount is something that runs in our Indian blood. I take pride in telling that. Ever since our childhood we have been taught to be cautious with our spending habits. Right from our household activities to our corporate world the Paisa Vasool strategy is exploited with all possible means. People often confuse this trait with being miser but clearly it isn’t that. It is an art.

Remember the time when you have waited till Diwali just to replace your old fridge. Reason being during Diwali, the market is flooded with offers and in the same amount you would get multiple add on too. Or the times when you would stalk your favorite dress in the showroom till the sale kicks off so that you can grab on to your dream piece. A perfect example of how we make great deal out of a specific amount.

I am going for ride in Renault Lodgy, wanna tag along ?

Travel often ~ getting lost will help you find yourself.

This is my favorite travel quote. It just says it all. Short and complete in every sense. When I heard about the Renault Lodgy contest I was ecstatic and the idea of traveling in and around Goa in the all new Lodgy left me jumping with excitement. I love travelling whether it is to a place which is few kilometers away or to a land far far away. If I have to pick further, road travels are my most preferred options.

When I am not in my cozy bed, snuggling around I am either in my cubical working or I am out exploring. When I got to know about the #LiveLodgycal Drive deal, I didn’t have to think much about what my first five picks would be. When I am travelling there are certain things which are always my companion.

The first and very important thing that I never forget to carry is my handbag. You might get a little amused by this but it is something that I always carry. I am in shoulder to handle relationship with my bag. My handbag houses a lot of my essentials like wallet, house keys, lip balm, a pen, a mist and many more. I am always assured that I have all the necessary things covered up if I have my bag with me. Just like my bag has a perfect place for everything the new Renault Lodgy comes with creative crafting of the interiors which has made sure that you get space for everything. So much of attention has been given to the detailing that you will always have ample space to keep all your belongings in place.

Langkawi Tour – Day Two

This was huge. A very important spot in Langkawi Tourism.

This was huge. A very important spot in Langkawi Tourism.

Day 1 went as per my plan. The idea was to keep Day 1 hectic so that Day 2 can be taken lightly as by end of Day 2 we had to catch our flight back to Kuala Lumpur. I didn’t want to rush into anything on Day 2. Things planned for Day 2 were:

  • Visit to the Eagle Square.
  • Island Hopping
  • Cenang Beach again (Because it was so serene I wanted to visit again before leaving).
  1. Eagle Square: We had out breakfast and then we left for Eagle Square which is also popularly known as Dataran Lang. I convinced my taxi driver to wait of us to take us to the next spot. Finding a taxi can be a cumbersome task because most of the taxis that you would find would be already booked. So better to save some hassle here.

Now here is a little trivia about the Eagle Square and its profound significance. I did a little googling and found this

“Langkawi means island of the reddish-brown eagle in colloquial Malay. The Malay word for eagle is helang – which is shortened to “lang”, while kawi is the name of a red stone used as a chalk to mark goods. This interpretation was used to create the landmark sculpture of an eagle as the symbol of Langkawi at Dataran Lang (Eagle Square) in Kuah, Langkawi.”  ~ Source google.com.

Langkawi Tour – Day One

I had allocated two complete days for the Langkawi visit. I aimed for not wasting even an hour in traveling in those forty eight hours. We arrived at Langkawi airport at 6:00 PM. We headed straight to the hotel. By that time it was quite dark and late. We took a stroll in the hotel, had dinner and dozed off.

Day one started quite early. I had already figured out the places to be visited on the day one. I had convinced the same taxi driver who dropped us from the airport for taking us to our first destination. So the destination lined up for day one were

  1. Mangrove Tour
  2. Cable Car Ride
  3. Pentai Cenang Beach
  4. Cenang Mall

We finished our breakfast at the hotel and left for the Mangrove Tour. The taxi driver settled for 20 RM for taking us to the Mangrove Tour spot from the hotel.  Now the catch is if I will let this taxi drop off and go, I might not get another taxi for my next destination as majority of the tourist take the taxi for the whole day which I didn’t as the charges were way too high. I was scared what If I didn’t get any taxi after finishing the tour. The tour was for complete two hours. I discussed the same with the taxi driver and he agreed to wait for us for charging 10 RM extra. I thought it was a fair deal and I asked him to stay back. I didn’t pay him for dropping till the Mangrove spot as I thought he might leave if he gets another lucrative offer. He also agreed to it.

1. Mangrove Tour

The Mangrove spot would look more like a deck of a ship which is full of people roaming around in their live jackets. I enquired about the packages and they had different prices based on the number of spots you visit during the tour. I went for the standard package as I didn’t want to miss anything. I spent 300 RM for the Mangrove Tour. So the concept is you will get a private boat and a driver. The driver will then take you to all the listed spots as per your chosen package. The boat was big enough to accommodate ten people but we were just three so it went a little out of budget for me. Following spots were covered in the package that I took:

  • Bat Caves
  • Fish Farm
  • Eagle watching
  • Anak Tikus Island
  • Andaman Sea

Beware your data might be at risk, high time you safeguard it.

Have you ever checked your archive and realized how much of data do you have in your laptop or hard disk? If you have not just give it a shot today and you would realize that the count has just gone double since you last checked it. And I am sure all of it is very important and you will not give up a single byte of it. Have you ever thought if one fine day all of it is lost? Have you ever imagined a situation where you laptop suddenly crashes, your hard disk goes missing, your pen drive goes corrupted and  in a jiffy you lose everything. Like people have near death experiences I have had a near data loss experience. It was scarier than death for sure.

The main issue with data loss is that there would always be some chunk which is not recoverable from anywhere. It is not something that you can buy with money or arrange from your contacts. Once it is gone it is gone, all you can do is rub your hands and regret for not doing anything to safeguard it. Recently when I couldn’t find my hard disk I had a timeline movie running in my head (similar of what Facebook once got in trend) showing me what all data I have lost and it got me into tears. I just sat and thought of what all I could have done to minimize the data loss, it is never fully recoverable but there are ways to lessen the pain. Fortunately I found my hard disk but you might not be that fortunate, so here is a little list of what you can do to safeguard your precious data:

  • Leverage Facebook: I am not sure if you are aware of it or not but Facebook has no limit of photo upload. You can upload 1000 photos in one album and innumerable albums are allowed. Now I know you don’t wish to share every moment with your so called Facebook friends, all you need to do is tweak around with the settings of the album and make it “Visible to me”, which makes it your private album on Facebook. So don’t think so much and start uploading your important pictures and ensure that they are data loss insured.
